What to Buy Now

Summer is in full swing, and while we’re not quite ready to think about fall, this is the time for last-chance summer shopping, as well as first-chance fall shopping.

Summer Sales

This is a good time to shop for hot-weather styles that are marked down at stores like Macy’s, because they will soon be taken out of the stores to make room for the many new fall styles. Look for metallic sandals and sleeveless tops or dresses that can be worn for another month or so, and will be almost new for next summer. Macy’s has several dresses for under $50 at macys.com.

Fall Sales

Other stores, like Nordstrom, are having pre-season fall sales. While it can be difficult to shop for sweaters and coats in the middle of summer, it’s a good chance to see what’s new and buy a few classic or trendy items to pull out when the weather cools off.

A new item this year is something called a “Swacket,” or sweater jacket. It’s a combination sweater and jacket, which combines a little structure and professionalism with the soft warmth of a sweater. There are several styles on sale now at Nordstrom.
